Radha Rani Temple (Ladli Ji Mandir) in Barsana opens at 5:00 AM in summer (April-Sept) and 5:30 AM in winter (Oct-March). Morning darshan closes at 1:00-1:30 PM; evening darshan reopens at 4:00-5:00 PM. The temple sits atop Barsana Hill200+ stairs or a short ropeway ride. Barsanathe birthplace of Radha Ranisits 45 km from Vrindavan and 50 km from Mathura on a group of four hills that rise from the flat Braj plains. The main temple, Shri Radha Rani Mandir or Ladli Ji Mandir, sits at the top of the highest of these hills. Getting there means either climbing 200+ stairs or taking the ropeway. Getting the darshan right means knowing the temple’s strict afternoon closure, its five daily aartis  and the seasonal timing shifts that catch most first-time visitors off guard.

I am Gurudutt, born in Braj Bhoomi and founder of Experience My India. I have guided more than 50,000 pilgrims through Braj since 2018Barsana is a regular stop on our 3-day and longer tours. The question I get asked most about Barsana is simple: what time does the temple open? But behind that question is usually a deeper planning problem. This guide answers both.

You will find exact timings for every season, the full aarti schedule, honest crowd information, ropeway status  and directions from Mathura, Vrindavan, Delhi  and Jaipurall in one place.

About Radha Rani Temple Barsana History & Spiritual Significance

Shri Radha Rani Temple also known as Ladli Ji Mandir, Sriji Mandir  or Barsana Mandiris dedicated to Radha Rani, the divine consort of Lord Krishna and the presiding deity of Braj. Devotees consider Barsana the birthplace of Radha Rani, and the temple stands atop Brahma Parvat, the highest of the four hills in Barsana that are named after the four faces of Brahma. Raja Vir Singh Deo of Orchha built the current temple structure in 1675 CE using red and yellow sandstone in the Rajput architectural style. The temple’s main sanctum enshrines a self-manifested image of Radha Rani, and priests dress, adorn, and worship the deity through five daily aartis. The temple is especially significant during Holi seasonthe Lathmar Holi of Barsana, where women playfully beat men with lathis, is one of the most participated celebrations in all of Braj.

For pilgrims visiting Barsana as part of a Braj yatra, Experience My India’s 3 Days Mathura Vrindavan Tour includes Barsana on Day 3 alongside Govardhan and Radha Kundthe complete outer Braj circuit.

Radha Rani Temple Timings Summer & Winter 2026

The Radha Rani Temple follows a strict seasonal timetable. The temple closes completely during the afternoon for rituals and bhog service-this is non-negotiable and enforced. Pilgrims who arrive between 1:30 PM and 4:00 PM (summer) or 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM (winter) will find the gates closed.

Season Morning Darshan Afternoon Closure Evening Darshan
Summer (April-September) 5:00 AM-1:30 PM 1:30 PM-5:00 PM (closed) 5:00 PM-9:00 PM
Winter (October-March) 5:30 AM-1:00 PM 1:00 PM-4:00 PM (closed) 4:00 PM-8:30 PM

The temple closes strictly during the afternoon for rituals and bhog seva no exceptions. This is the single biggest planning mistake for first-time Barsana visitors: arriving at 2 PM and finding a closed gate after 50 km of driving.

Experience My India builds all Barsana visits around either the morning darshan block (arrive by 9:00 AM for comfortable crowds) or the evening darshan (arrive by 4:30 PM). Our 3 Days Mathura Vrindavan Tour from Jaipur sequences Day 3 with a morning Barsana departure to ensure you arrive within the darshan window. Call +91-7302265809 to build your itinerary around these timings.

Ground Truth What Nobody Tells You Before Visiting Barsana

After 8 years of leading pilgrimages to Barsana, here are the realities most travel blogs either do not know or do not say:

  • The afternoon closure is absolute. I have seen busloads of pilgrims arrive from Mathura at 2:30 PM and sit at the base of the hill for 2 hours waiting for the gate to reopen. The temple closes after Rajbhog Aartisummer 1:30 PM, winter 1:00 PMand nothing opens that gate until evening darshan starts. If you are coming from Vrindavan or Mathura on a day trip, leave by 7:00 AM to be inside the morning darshan window.
  • There are no VIP darshan tickets anywhere. The temple has free, open entry. There is no paid fast-track lane, no special darshan ticket, no “panda fee” that gives you access other pilgrims do not have. Men near the base offering VIP passes for ₹200-₹500 are charging for a service that does not exist. Walk past them.
  •  200 stairs is not “just a short climb” for everyone. For first-time visitors who are out of practice with stairs, elderly pilgrims  and those with knee or heart conditions, the staircase is a genuine physical challenge. The ropeway at ₹100-₹150 return is absolutely worth it for anyone in this category. Experience My India recommends the ropeway for all groups with senior citizen members; do not let anyone talk elderly relatives into the staircase if they are not confident.
  • Barsana and Nandgaon are best visited together.  Nandgaon, the childhood village of Krishna, is just 8 km from Barsana. The Nand Bhawan temple there holds the deity of Krishna’s father Nand Baba. Most pilgrims combine both in one morning: Nandgaon by 8:00 AM, Barsana by 10:00 AM. This is how Experience My India schedules Day 3 of the Braj tour, both covered in the morning darshan window before the 1:00 PM closure.
  • Lathmar Holi at Barsana is not for the faint-hearted. The famous Holi where women beat men with lathis is not a gentle, photogenic event from a distance. The lanes of Barsana become genuinely crowded and physically intense. Experience My India groups are positioned at specific vantage points and accompanied by a guide who navigates the crowds. Do not attempt Lathmar Holi at Barsana independently if this is your first time; it is a very different logistical situation from a regular temple visit.
