Prem Mandir for Senior Citizens
Of all the temples in Vrindavan, this is the easiest for elderly pilgrims, and it is worth saying why.
The grounds are level, the pathways are wide and paved, and there are benches throughout the gardens. Unlike Banke Bihari, there are no narrow crowded lanes to navigate and no long climb. A visitor in a wheelchair can see the whole complex, including the fountain show, comfortably.
For the light show, seating is available in the garden, so nobody has to stand for the full 30 minutes. What to See Inside
Prem Mandir, also called Shyama Shyam Dham, was built by Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj and inaugurated in 2012. The name means Temple of Divine Love.
The main structure is fifty four acres of Italian white marble. The Radha Krishna deities sit on the upper level and the Sita Ram deities on the lower. Around the outside, the walls carry detailed carvings of Krishna’s leelas: lifting Govardhan, the Raas Leela, stealing butter, subduing the Kaliya serpent. In the surrounding gardens are large sculpted scenes of these same stories, which children in particular love.
