The history of Keshi Ghat
Keshi Ghat carries one of the oldest stories in Vrindavan. According to tradition, the demon Keshi, sent by Kansa, came in the form of a ferocious horse to kill Krishna and Krishna defeated him here and then bathed in the Yamuna, which is how the ghat takes its name. The structure you see today was built in the 17th century by Queen Laxmi Devi of Bharatpur, in the distinctive Rajasthani style: arched pavilions, carved sandstone pillars, jali lattice windows and steps that cascade dramatically into the dark water. At golden hour the whole ghat shines and the palace-like structure behind it turns an ordinary riverbank into something cinematic.
