| Quick answer. The main places to visit in Mathura and Vrindavan are Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi, Dwarkadhish Temple and Vishram Ghat in Mathura, and Banke Bihari Temple, Prem Mandir, ISKCON, Radha Raman Temple, Nidhivan and Keshi Ghat in Vrindavan. Govardhan, Gokul and Barsana sit within 50 km. Entry to every one of them is free. Almost all close from about noon to 4:30 PM. Ask any Braj local which mistake visitors repeat most often, and none of us will say the wrong hotel or the wrong season. We will say the same thing: they arrive at 2 PM.
At 2 PM, Banke Bihari is shut. Krishna Janmabhoomi is shut. Dwarkadhish is shut. Radha Raman has been closed for over an hour and will not open again until six. A family that has driven three and a half hours from Delhi stands in an empty lane, holding a list of ten places, and cannot enter a single one.
I am Gurudutt. I was born in Braj Bhoomi and I have guided pilgrims through these lanes since 2018, more than 50,000 of them. This guide lists the places to visit in Mathura and Vrindavan the way I would explain them to my own family: what each place is, when it actually opens, how far it sits from the last one, what the ride costs, and whether your mother can manage the walk.
Every place in this guide is free to enter. What you pay for is knowing when to arrive. If you would rather hand that problem to someone who does it every week, our Mathura Vrindavan tour packages start at ₹1,999 per person.
The One Thing That Decides Your Whole Day
Braj temples run on two sessions. A morning session that begins somewhere between 4:30 AM and 8:45 AM depending on the temple and the season, and an evening session that begins somewhere between 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM. In between, the doors are shut while the priests perform bhog and seva.
This is not a rumour or a quirk. It is the daily rhythm of every major temple in both towns, and it is why the order in which you visit places matters more than the list itself. If you want the full schedule for every shrine in the city, our Mathura temple timings guide sets them out one by one.
Build your day in two blocks. Morning from 5:30 AM to noon. Evening from 4:30 PM to 9:00 PM. Give the middle of the day to lunch, rest and the drive between Mathura and Vrindavan. Fighting that window is pointless. Planning around it is the entire skill, and it is what Experience My India does on every tour.
Still deciding which town to base yourself in? Our honest comparison of Mathura vs Vrindavan, which to visit or stay in answers that before you book a hotel.
Places to Visit in Mathura
Mathura is where Krishna was born. It is louder, older and more crowded than Vrindavan, and it rewards visitors who come at dawn. If you only have a single day here, follow our Mathura sightseeing in one day route rather than inventing your own.
Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi
The birthplace itself. The Garbha Griha is the prison cell where Devaki and Vasudeva were held by Kansa, and the temple has been built around and above it. It sits about 3 km from Mathura Junction in the Katra Keshav Dev area.
Come at 5:30 AM for the Mangala Aarti if you can manage it. The complex is quiet then, the queue has not built, and the security check takes minutes instead of an hour.
One practical warning that catches almost every first time visitor. Phones, cameras, bags and all electronics are banned inside the complex. There is a deposit counter outside, and it charges a nominal amount per device, but the queue for that counter itself builds badly between 8:00 AM and 11:00 AM. Carry one small cloth bag and nothing else.
Dwarkadhish Temple
This is Krishna as a king, not as a cowherd, and the whole atmosphere shifts accordingly. The worship follows the Pushtimarg tradition, which means darshan happens in a series of short windows through the day rather than one continuous session, and the curtain closes between them. That is why you will see different timings quoted for this temple all over the internet. Both are half right.
The reliable rule is this: come in the morning before 10:30 AM or in the evening after 4:00 PM. The temple sits about 2.5 km from Krishna Janmabhoomi, roughly 15 minutes by e-rickshaw through the old city lanes.
The Sandhya Aarti here is one of the most physically intense experiences in Braj. Hundreds of voices inside an enclosed stone courtyard. It is not for the claustrophobic.
Vishram Ghat
The main ghat on the Yamuna, where Krishna is believed to have rested after killing Kansa. It is a two minute walk from Dwarkadhish, which is why we always pair them.
The Yamuna Aarti here at sunset, with lamps floating on the water, is the quiet emotional high point of a Mathura day. It costs nothing. A short boat ride is available for ₹50 to ₹100 shared.
Here is the local trick nobody publishes. Reach Vishram Ghat at 6:00 AM for the morning aarti on the water, and when it finishes, walk up the alley. You arrive at Dwarkadhish exactly as the morning darshan opens. Two of the best moments in Mathura, back to back, before most tourists have finished breakfast.
Travellers coming down from Delhi for the day usually do all three of these before lunch. Our Same Day Mathura Vrindavan Tour from ₹1,999 per person is built on exactly that morning block, and if you want to see how the hours fit together first, read how to visit Mathura and Vrindavan in one day.

Places to Visit in Vrindavan
Vrindavan is where Krishna spent his childhood. It sits about 12 km from Mathura Junction, a stretch we break down properly in our Mathura to Vrindavan distance and route guide, and it feels like a different world.
Banke Bihari Temple
The most visited temple in Vrindavan, and the strangest in the best way. There are no bells and no conch shells. There is no daily Mangala Aarti, because the tradition holds that Bihari Ji wakes late. And there is no continuous darshan. Instead a curtain is drawn across the deity and opened again every few minutes, a practice called jhanki, in the belief that continuous eye contact with that gaze would overwhelm a devotee.
Timings shift by a full hour between seasons, and this is where most visitors get burned. In summer the temple opens at 7:45 AM. In winter it opens at 8:45 AM. A pilgrim who reaches at 7:45 AM in December finds a closed door.
Two things to know before you go. Photography inside is prohibited and enforced, and the dress code is checked at the gate. We have written the full rules for Banke Bihari darshan, covering timings, dress code and seva, and it is worth five minutes before you travel.
And there is no official online VIP darshan pass sold by anyone on the street. Anyone selling you one is selling you nothing. If you need genuine priority access, read what is actually possible on our Banke Bihari VIP darshan and passes page. Entry itself is free for everyone, always.
Prem Mandir
Fifty four acres of Italian white marble, built by Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj. In daylight the carvings of Krishna’s leelas are sharper than photographs suggest. After dark the lights change across the marble and the whole structure shifts colour.
The light and fountain show is the thing people come for. It runs around 7:30 PM in summer and around 7:00 PM in winter, tracking sunset, and our full Prem Mandir darshan time, aarti and light show guide has the complete schedule. Arrive by 7:00 PM in summer to get garden seating near the fountain, which is the best view in the complex.
The gardens are level, wide and dotted with benches, which makes Prem Mandir the most wheelchair friendly place in either town. Entry is free.
ISKCON Vrindavan (Sri Krishna Balaram Mandir)
The most organised temple in Braj and, for that reason, the easiest for a first time visitor or an elderly pilgrim. Wide pathways, seating, clear queues, and a kirtan that runs almost continuously.
It opens at 4:30 AM, earlier than anything else in town, and the Mangala Aarti at that hour in an almost empty hall is something people remember for years. Prasadam is served free, but it runs out well before the crowds thin.
Radha Raman Temple
Small, old, and the most underrated place in Vrindavan. Established in 1542 by Gopala Bhatta Goswami, and the deity is self manifested, meaning it was never carved. The same idol has been worshipped here for close to five centuries, and unlike almost every other historic temple in Braj, it has never had to be replaced.
The Shringar Darshan between 8:00 AM and 9:00 AM is the reason to come. The priests dress the deity in fresh clothing while devotees stand a few metres away. In a small temple at that hour, the access is closer and more personal than anything at Banke Bihari. The Radha Raman Temple aarti timings and travel tips guide has the full ritual schedule.
A green light at the entrance means darshan is open. A red light means the sanctum has closed briefly for ritual. Watch the light. It is 300 metres from Banke Bihari on foot.
Nidhivan
Sixteen thousand trees, hollow and twisted, each believed to be a gopi who joined Krishna’s Raas Leela. This is where Swami Haridas sang the bhajan through which the Banke Bihari deity is said to have appeared.
Nidhivan closes strictly before sunset and nobody is permitted inside after dark. This is enforced daily and it is not negotiable. Visit between 8:00 AM and 11:00 AM. Visitors who arrive after lunch routinely find the gate shut and are, understandably, upset about it.
Keep your bag closed here. The monkeys in these lanes are quick and they specifically target glasses, phones and food packets.
Keshi Ghat
The main Yamuna ghat of Vrindavan, built in the 17th century by Queen Laxmi Devi of Bharatpur, and named for the demon Keshi whom Krishna defeated here.
Two windows are worth your time. Sunrise, when the priests are at their rituals and almost nobody else is there. And around 6:30 PM for the Yamuna Aarti, which is smaller and more intimate than the big river aartis elsewhere in India. Small lamps on the water, people sitting on the steps, and no loudspeakers on an ordinary day.
There are steps down to the water. If your parents cannot manage them, the aarti is fully visible from the platform above, and no, they will not miss anything.
Six places, one town, and every one of them has an opening window that does not match the next. First time visitors usually find our 1 day Vrindavan itinerary easier than assembling the order themselves. If you want two unhurried days across both towns, the 2 Days Mathura Vrindavan Tour at ₹3,999 per person covers everything above with the Yamuna Aarti and the Prem Mandir light show built into the evenings.
Places to Visit Near Mathura and Vrindavan
The twin towns are the centre, but Braj is bigger. These four sit close enough to add on, and every one of them is included in our 3 Days Mathura Vrindavan Tour.
Govardhan Hill
The hill Krishna lifted on one finger to shelter the villagers from Indra’s storm, a story we tell properly in our guide to the history of Govardhan Parvat. The parikrama around it is 21 km and takes five to seven hours on foot, beginning traditionally at Mansi Ganga. Radha Kund, Shyam Kund, Kusum Sarovar and Daan Ghati all sit on the route, and the Govardhan Parikrama route and timings guide walks through each stop.
Twenty one kilometres on foot is not realistic for most families, and there is no shame in that. A vehicle can follow the route with stops at each sacred point, which is how we handle it for elderly pilgrims. Nobody in an Experience My India group misses the parikrama because of their knees. Pilgrims walking it during the extra lunar month should read our Govardhan Parikrama in Adhik Maas guide, because the crowd behaves completely differently that month.
If Govardhan is the main reason for your trip, the 2 Days Mathura Vrindavan Govardhan Tour gives the hill a full unhurried day of its own.
Kusum Sarovar
A sandstone reservoir and garden about 2 km from Govardhan Hill, and one of the few places in Braj where you can sit for an hour and hear almost nothing. The stepped architecture is genuinely beautiful in the hour before sunset, and the crowds are thin.
Gokul and Brahmand Ghat
Where the infant Krishna was hidden from Kansa, about 15 km from Mathura. Raman Reti is the sandy expanse where he played, and devout pilgrims still roll in that sand. Brahmand Ghat is where he opened his mouth and showed Yashoda the entire universe inside it.
Gokul is quieter than either main town and it works well as a morning stop before the heat builds.
Barsana
Radha’s birthplace, roughly 48 km from Mathura, and the Radha Rani Temple in Barsana sits on top of a hill. That means a climb of around 200 steps. A palanquin is available for those who need it, and there is no shame in taking one. Check the Barsana temple timings for 2026 before you set out, because the hilltop shrine closes earlier than the temples in town.
Barsana is world famous for Lathmar Holi, when the women of the village playfully drive the men of Nandgaon away with sticks. If you are visiting in the Holi season, book six weeks ahead. It fills. Travellers who want Govardhan and Barsana together in a single day can do it, and our Same Day Govardhan Barsana Tour is paced for exactly that.
Complete Timings Table for 2026
These are the timings we work with on the ground. Braj temples shift their schedules with the season and with festival days, so treat this as your planning table and confirm on the morning of your visit. We do exactly that for every tour group.
| Place | Summer (March to October) | Winter (November to February) | Entry |
| Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi | 5:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 4:00 PM to 9:30 PM | 5:30 AM to 12:00 PM, 3:00 PM to 8:30 PM | Free |
| Dwarkadhish Temple | 6:30 AM to about 10:30 AM, 4:00 PM to evening | Similar, shifted about 30 minutes later | Free |
| Vishram Ghat | Open all day. Yamuna Aarti at sunset | Open all day. Aarti earlier with sunset | Free |
| Banke Bihari Temple | 7:45 AM to 12:00 PM, 5:30 PM to 9:30 PM | 8:45 AM to 1:00 PM, 4:30 PM to 8:30 PM | Free |
| Prem Mandir | Darshan 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM, 4:30 PM to 8:30 PM. Light show about 7:30 PM | Same darshan windows. Light show about 7:00 PM | Free |
| ISKCON Vrindavan | 4:30 AM to 12:30 PM, 4:00 PM to 8:30 PM | Same | Free |
| Radha Raman Temple | 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM, 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM | Same. Mangala Aarti moves to about 4:00 AM | Free |
| Nidhivan | About 5:00 AM until before sunset. No entry after dark | Same, closes earlier with sunset | Free |
| Keshi Ghat | Open all day. Yamuna Aarti about 6:30 PM | Open all day. Aarti earlier | Free |
| Kusum Sarovar | Daylight hours, about 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM | Same, closes earlier | Free |
Two honest notes. Dwarkadhish runs a slot based Pushtimarg system rather than one long session, so published closing times vary across every source you will read. And on Ekadashi, Janmashtami, Holi and Radhashtami, none of the table above applies. If you are travelling for Krishna’s birthday, plan around our Janmashtami 2026 guide instead, and call +91-7302265809 on the morning of your visit and we will tell you what is actually open.
Distance Between Every Place
Google Maps will underestimate every one of these, because it cannot see a cow standing in a four metre lane.
| From | To | Distance | Realistic travel time |
| Mathura Junction | Vrindavan (Banke Bihari) | About 12 km | 30 to 45 minutes |
| Mathura Junction | Krishna Janmabhoomi | About 3 km | 10 to 15 minutes |
| Krishna Janmabhoomi | Dwarkadhish Temple | About 2.5 km | 15 minutes by e-rickshaw |
| Dwarkadhish Temple | Vishram Ghat | Under 1 km | 5 minute walk |
| Banke Bihari | Radha Raman Temple | 300 metres | 5 minute walk |
| Banke Bihari | Nidhivan | Under 1 km | 10 minute walk |
| Banke Bihari | Keshi Ghat | About 2 km | 8 minutes by e-rickshaw |
| Banke Bihari | Prem Mandir | About 2 km | 10 to 15 minutes |
| Prem Mandir | ISKCON | About 1.5 km | 10 minutes |
| Vrindavan | Govardhan | About 22 km | 45 minutes |
| Mathura | Gokul | About 15 km | 30 minutes |
| Mathura | Barsana | About 48 km | 1.5 hours |
| Delhi | Mathura | About 160 km via Yamuna Expressway | 3 to 3.5 hours |
| Agra | Mathura | About 60 km | 1.5 hours |
Moving between these points without a vehicle of your own is the part that eats the day. Most families end up hiring one anyway, which is why a Mathura Vrindavan tour by car usually works out both faster and cheaper than a morning of negotiating with auto drivers.
What It Costs to Get Around
Every temple in this guide is free. What you spend is on movement, and this is where visitors get quietly overcharged.
| Journey | Standard rate | What tourists are often quoted |
| Mathura Junction to Vrindavan, shared auto | ₹20 to ₹40 | ₹150 and upward |
| Mathura Junction to Vrindavan, private cab | ₹150 to ₹200 | ₹400 and upward |
| E-rickshaw inside Vrindavan, short hop | ₹20 to ₹30 | ₹100 to ₹150 on weekends |
| E-rickshaw, full day hire | ₹150 to ₹200 | Varies wildly |
| Yamuna boat ride, shared | ₹50 to ₹100 | Doubles on weekends and festivals |
| Yamuna boat ride, private | ₹300 to ₹700 | Doubles on weekends and festivals |
| Street food meal | ₹80 to ₹150 | Fair, this one is honest |
Experience My India uses pre arranged private vehicles for every tour group, which means there is nothing to negotiate at the gate and nobody starts the day with an argument. For the complete breakdown of what a trip costs end to end, see our Mathura Vrindavan packages cost and itinerary guide.
Which Places Suit Senior Citizens
I get asked this more than any other question, and most guides answer it dishonestly. Here is the truth.
| Place | The honest reality | What we do about it |
| ISKCON Vrindavan | The most accessible temple in Braj. Wide paths, seating, organised queues | The first stop on every senior citizen tour |
| Prem Mandir | Level ground, wide garden paths, benches throughout | Evening light show with seating held in advance |
| Krishna Janmabhoomi | Long security queue and a walk inside the complex | Visit at 5:30 AM when the queue is short |
| Banke Bihari | Narrow lanes, no vehicle access, heavy crowd pressure | Weekday, before 8:30 AM in summer. Guide manages the crowd |
| Vishram Ghat | Steps down to the water | Aarti visible from the upper level |
| Keshi Ghat | Steps down to the water | Aarti fully visible from the platform above |
| Nidhivan | Uneven ground inside the grove | Morning only, never in afternoon heat |
| Govardhan Parikrama | 21 km on foot is not realistic for most elders | Vehicle follows the route with stops at each sacred point |
| Barsana | About 200 steps up to the Radha Rani temple | Palanquin arranged, and we visit in the calmer afternoon |
Tell us your family member’s specific mobility needs on +91-7302265809 before you book, and we plan around them rather than around a fixed schedule. For families travelling with elderly parents, the 4 Days Mathura and Vrindavan Tour at ₹7,999 per person is the pace I recommend most often, because it builds a rest block into every afternoon instead of pretending the heat does not exist.
How to Reach Mathura and Vrindavan
| From | Route | Distance and time |
| Delhi and NCR | Road via Yamuna Expressway | About 160 km, 3 to 3.5 hours |
| Agra | Road via NH-44 | About 60 km, 1.5 hours |
| Jaipur | Road | About 230 km, 4 hours |
| Anywhere by train | Mathura Junction, then 12 km to Vrindavan | 30 to 40 minutes onward |
| Bangalore, Chennai, Mumbai, Hyderabad | Flight to Delhi, then road | Flight plus 3.5 hours |
There is no airport at Mathura or Vrindavan. Delhi IGI is the practical arrival point for anyone flying, and Experience My India arranges pickup from the airport, from your Delhi hotel, or from the platform at Mathura Junction.
Coming from Agra and want the Taj Mahal on the same trip? The Same Day Agra Mathura Vrindavan Tour and the 3 Days Agra Mathura Vrindavan Tour from Delhi both fold Agra into the route, since it sits directly on the Yamuna Expressway.
Know Before You Plan
- Every temple in this guide is free. Anyone charging you for entry, or selling a VIP darshan pass at Banke Bihari on the street, is not official.
- Shoe counters add 15 to 20 minutes to every single temple visit. Factor that into your day.
- Dress code is enforced at Banke Bihari. Shoulders and knees covered. A kurta or dupatta costs ₹100 to ₹300 outside the temple if you forget.
- Phones and cameras are banned inside Krishna Janmabhoomi. Photography inside Banke Bihari is prohibited.
- Monkeys near Nidhivan and the Banke Bihari lanes target glasses, phones and food packets. Keep sunglasses in your bag, not on your head.
- Weekday mornings between 5:00 AM and 8:00 AM are a completely different town. Cleaner, calmer, and manageable even in crowded lanes.
- October to March is the comfortable season, 15 to 28 degrees. April to June crosses 40 degrees by midday. Our best time to visit Mathura Vrindavan guide goes month by month.
- Book three months ahead for Janmashtami. Six weeks for Holi. Both fill every year.
How Many Places You Can Actually Cover
| Time you have | What you can cover properly | What you will have to skip | Our package |
| One day | Krishna Janmabhoomi, Dwarkadhish, Banke Bihari, Prem Mandir | Govardhan, Barsana, Nidhivan, Yamuna Aarti | Same Day Tour, from ₹1,999 |
| Two days | All of the above plus ISKCON, Radha Raman, Nidhivan, Keshi Ghat, Yamuna Aarti, Prem Mandir light show | Govardhan Parikrama, Barsana | 2 Days Tour, ₹3,999 |
| Three days | Adds Govardhan, Radha Kund, Kusum Sarovar and Gokul | Barsana and Nandgaon in depth | 3 Days Tour, ₹5,999 |
| Four days | Adds Barsana, Nandgaon and the quieter Vrindavan temples | Only the full 84 Kos circuit | 4 Days Tour, ₹7,999 |
| Five days and beyond | The complete Braj circuit, or Ayodhya and Kashi | Nothing | 84 Kos Parikrama Tour or the 6 Days Mathura Vrindavan Ayodhya Kashi Tour |
Three to five places done properly will stay with you longer than ten places rushed. I have watched pilgrims leave Vrindavan in tears, not because the place failed them, but because they tried to cover everything and connected with nothing.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are the main places to visit in Mathura and Vrindavan?
In Mathura: Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi, Dwarkadhish Temple and Vishram Ghat. In Vrindavan: Banke Bihari Temple, Prem Mandir, ISKCON, Radha Raman Temple, Nidhivan and Keshi Ghat. Govardhan, Gokul, Kusum Sarovar and Barsana sit within 50 km. Every one is free to enter. Experience My India covers all of them across its 2, 3 and 4 day packages. Call +91-7302265809.
How many places can I cover in one day in Mathura and Vrindavan?
Four, comfortably, if the day is sequenced correctly. Krishna Janmabhoomi and Dwarkadhish in Mathura between 7:00 and 11:30 AM, then Banke Bihari and Prem Mandir in Vrindavan in the evening. The afternoon closure from noon to about 4:30 PM is used for lunch and travel. Experience My India’s Same Day Mathura Vrindavan Tour from ₹1,999 is built around exactly this. Call +91-7302265809.
Are the temples in Mathura and Vrindavan free to enter?
Yes. Entry to Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi, Banke Bihari, Prem Mandir, ISKCON, Dwarkadhish, Radha Raman and Nidhivan is completely free. There is a nominal charge at the electronics deposit counter outside Krishna Janmabhoomi, and the museum inside the complex has a small ticket. Nobody sells an official VIP darshan pass for Banke Bihari on the street, as our Banke Bihari darshan and passes page explains. Experience My India charges for transport, hotel and guiding, never for darshan.
Which place should I visit first in Mathura and Vrindavan?
Start with Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi in Mathura at 5:30 AM for the Mangala Aarti. The queue is short, the security check is quick, and it is the historical and emotional foundation of everything else in Braj. From there, Vishram Ghat and Dwarkadhish are both within 3 km and can be covered in the same morning. Experience My India sequences every Mathura day in this exact order.
How far is Vrindavan from Mathura?
About 12 km from Mathura Junction, which takes 30 to 45 minutes in practice. A shared auto costs ₹20 to ₹40 and a private cab ₹150 to ₹200. Google Maps underestimates this badly because it cannot account for temple lane congestion, as our Mathura to Vrindavan distance guide explains. Every Experience My India package includes a private AC vehicle for these transfers.
Which places in Mathura and Vrindavan are suitable for senior citizens?
ISKCON Vrindavan and Prem Mandir are the most accessible, with wide level paths and seating throughout. Banke Bihari requires walking through narrow lanes with crowd pressure, so visit on a weekday before 8:30 AM. Keshi Ghat and Vishram Ghat have steps, but the aarti is fully visible from the platform above. Experience My India arranges vehicle support on the Govardhan Parikrama and a palanquin at Barsana, and the 4 Days Tour is paced for elders. Call +91-7302265809.
What time do temples close in Mathura and Vrindavan?
Almost every major temple closes from around noon until between 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM, depending on the temple and the season. Banke Bihari closes at 12:00 PM and reopens at 5:30 PM in summer, 4:30 PM in winter. Radha Raman has the longest break, closing at 12:30 PM and reopening at 6:00 PM. The full schedule sits in our Mathura temple timings guide. Experience My India confirms the day’s timings with local priests before every tour.
Can I visit Nidhivan in the evening?
No. Nidhivan closes strictly before sunset and nobody is permitted inside after dark. This is enforced daily by the temple authorities and there are no exceptions. Visit between 8:00 AM and 11:00 AM, when the grove is cooler and quieter. Experience My India schedules Nidhivan in the morning block of every Vrindavan itinerary, never the afternoon.
What is the best time to visit Mathura and Vrindavan?
October to March, when temperatures stay between 15 and 28 degrees and every temple runs its full darshan schedule. Kartik month, in October and November, carries the deepest significance for Vaishnavs. Janmashtami and Holi are the most charged and the most crowded, so book three months and six weeks ahead respectively. Our best time to visit guide breaks it down month by month. Experience My India runs tours year round.
Is photography allowed at the temples in Vrindavan?
Photography inside Banke Bihari Temple is prohibited and enforced, including phone cameras. At Krishna Janmabhoomi in Mathura, all phones, cameras and electronics must be deposited before entry. Photography is permitted in the Prem Mandir gardens and at ISKCON in the garden areas. The full list sits in our rules for Banke Bihari darshan guide. Experience My India briefs every group before each temple.
How many days do I need for Mathura and Vrindavan?
Two days is the practical minimum to cover both towns without rushing. Three days adds Govardhan and Barsana. Four days covers the wider Braj circuit comfortably and is what I recommend for families travelling with elderly parents. One day works if you are coming from Delhi and want the main temples only. Experience My India offers all four durations, from ₹1,999. Call +91-7302265809.
What should I not do in Mathura and Vrindavan?
Do not arrive at a temple between 12:00 PM and 4:30 PM, because almost every one is closed. Do not wear shorts or sleeveless clothing at Banke Bihari, as staff turn visitors away at the gate. Do not carry a phone into Krishna Janmabhoomi. Do not show food or wear sunglasses on your head near Nidhivan, because the monkeys are quick. And do not buy a VIP darshan pass from anyone on the street.
Conclusion
The places to visit in Mathura and Vrindavan are not hard to find. Every list on the internet names the same temples. What no list gives you is the one thing that decides whether you actually get inside them, which is arriving at the right hour.
That is the whole job. Since 2018, Experience My India has planned this trip for more than 50,000 pilgrims, and we are rated 4.5 stars by the families who trusted us with it.
